try reburning the ISO at a low speed, 2x recommended, also do a CRC check on the ISO to find out its integrity. Nero MD5 Verifier is a recommended choice. If setup still fails, its likely a bad download.
I use the one from Ahead Nero http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html
Here are the MD5/CRC values for x86 or x64 depending on which every ISO you downloaded:
x86 - File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x67E089E0 - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773 x64 - File Size = 4.01 GB (4,309,368,832 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x48697711 - MD5 Value = E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04
Paste the MD5 Checksum for either x64 or x86 depending on which one you want check in Step 1, Step 2 - Browse to where you stored the ISO on your drive and open it and it will automatically start the varification process and generate the has in the third field, if it matches Step 1, then you are safe. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

This is NOT a hard drive problem. Dont go out and buy a new hard drive. It's a DVD drive speed problem. The hardcode in some DVD drives allow for the drive to slow, and sometimes stop. This sometimes causes the drive to stop responding to Vista Installations' request to copy data from it to the hard drive. Several others have agreed with this thought. Consider using an old spare DVD ROM that functions at a max of 4X or so to install your copy. Once installed successfully, switch your DVD back out with your new one. Some people even suggest using a powerful fan to blow cool air into the chassis while installing. When I say a powerful fan, I mean one that actually plugs directly into your AC outlet.

I reburned the DVD from 16x to a 1x and this resolved the problem. It is loading with out an issue.

another good way is to copy the extracted .iso files (with teh setup.exe) onto the hdd and setup from there. that is faster and gives no errors. all you have to do is delete the installation after ur done!

I am a help desk technician, and we normally suggest this to our customers who are reloading their OS.
I also had this error happen to me, but at 63% of copying files.
My solution was what once would have been called an "elegant solution." Simply disconnect any and all USB devices from your system, and reload. Bingo! Problem solved.

I also had the same problem -- I can only get the install to work if I burn the ISO to a DVD-RW. I tried several DVD+R's and DVD-R's at different speed but only the DVD-RW at 1x worked. The .iso image checked out with SHA-1 fine . . . some weird burning problem? Hell I dunno . . . makes no sense to me
I also had the exact same problem with the February CTP
